The Story of Soul Tea

How did Soul Tea Therapy begin?

For over two years, I met weekly with a client struggling with severe depression, complex PTSD, and caregiver burnout. The exhaustion on his face week after week told an unspoken story of painful, lonely moments that were unacknowledged and unseen.

One day out of desperation, he sighed, “I’m so alone in this world that I don’t even remember the last time I sat down with someone just to have a cup of tea!”

It was that moment that birthed Soul Tea Therapy.

“Well my friend,” I replied, “would you like to have a cup of tea with me now?” His words inspired an invitation to connection, to slowing down and finding a resting place amidst incredibly dire life circumstances. After that day, I began offering tea to all my clients and therapy group members, many soon bringing their own mugs and feeling excited to choose a new tea to try that I had brought.

Sharing a cup of tea symbolized the nourishment of the therapeutic process, giving us strength to face our difficult realities, but not alone.

It represented an intentional decision to be present in small, authentic moments of joy even when it felt like things were falling apart.

Soul tea became our liminal space where our sorrows and fears could co-exist gracefully with our hopes for the future.

We could collectively celebrate our resilience, resist our culture’s obsession with finding self-worth in our productivity, and embrace our whole selves with love, compassion, and courage.

In other words, in a community where we could share tea, we could also share our vulnerabilities.

Soul Tea Therapy exists because your story matters and deserves to be heard. I invite you to share some soul tea with me and find healing together, one sip at a time!
